On December 14, 2006, our friend, Richard D’Amore, died tragically.

Richard was an honorary member of the ‘quiet creative giants club.’ He was an observer par excellence, who saved his energy for the camera and brought the timeless poetry that we can only imagine or dream of, into view. It is evident from experiencing the divine quality of his work, that his legacy will live on for many years to come.

The beauty of art is that it will always prevail, no matter how much the raging forces of envy, jealousy and incompetence will try to silence it. Richard steps into that pantheon of immortals. Though, I can imagine a little shy and bemused, as if asking, ‘moi?’

Travel well Richard, and know that we, the viewer, will keep your beautiful work alive.

Though a living legend in Europe, D’Amore’s career and work have until recently to a great extent been overlooked in the US. Spanning a career of more than thirty years, Richard D’Amore’s work has a strong, universal appeal that both satisfies the critical connoisseur as well as the collector who seeks a ‘simple aesthetic pleasure.’ Whether it be his nudes, his landscapes, his architectural photographs or his still-lifes; all of his work shares the same thread of superb quality.

Richard D’Amore first discovered photography while living in Mill Valley, California. He worked under the tutelage of artist and photographer Walter Chappell. In 1970, D’Amore relocated to France to work and study. A powerful collection of early works were published in 1971. While in Europe he taught photography at Camberwell College of Art in London. Upon returning to the US, D'Amore worked for the celebrated designers, Charles and Ray Eames as their photographer in the Venice Studio.

Richard D’Amore’s work has been published in numerous publications (a small selection is enclosed), and has been collected by a both eclectic and well known number of private collectors.
